New License


HOW TO APPLY FOR A NEW (OR INITIAL) LICENSE

If applying to sit for the national clinical social work licensing examination, submit the following:

  • Completed, signed and notarized Application for Licensure form.
  • Non-refundable prorated processing fee by check or money order made payable to “State of Delaware.”
  • Official transcript from a college or university showing that the applicant has received a masters or doctorate degree in clinical social work. The transcript must be sent directly from the college or university to the Board office. The college or university must be accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. (See www.cswe.org.)
  • Proof acceptable to the Board that the applicant has two years of clinical social work experience after receiving a master’s (MSW) degree. The clinical experience must consist of at least of 3,200 hours of which 1,600 hours were under professional supervision acceptable to the Board. The supervisor(s) must complete the Supervisory Reference Form(s) included with the application form. The form(s) must be sent directly from the supervisor(s) to the Board office. The supervisor must be a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW), master of social work (MSW), licensed psychologist or license psychiatrist.

The Board office will notify the applicant when the Board has determined that he or she is eligible to take the examination. When the applicant receives the notification, he or she must register for the examination with the Association of Social Work Boards. Online registration is available at www.aswb.org/exam_reg.shtml.

The Board office will notify the applicant of the examination results. If the applicant receives a passing score, the Board office will issue the license.
