License Renewal

Information About Renewal Applications

Licenses expire on October 31 of odd years (e.g., 2009, 2011).

Several weeks before your license expiration date, a renewal notice will be mailed to the address on your record. This notice will explain how to access the online renewal application. To complete the online renewal application, you must use a credit card to pay your renewal fee. The notice will also explain how to request a paper renewal application if you are unable to renew online.

Please keep your contact information in our records up-to-date so that notices we send will reach you.  To check and update your contact information online, click Change Contact Information.

How to Renew an Active License

To renew a license in Active status, you submit a renewal application, pay the renewal fee and attest to completing the required continuing education (CE). The CE must include the seven-hour National USPAP Update Course or its equivalent and three hours on Delaware law, rules and regulations. For more information about CE, see Sections 2.3 – 2.5 of the Board's Rules and Regulations.

After the renewal, a percentage of licensees and certificate holders will be randomly selected for audit of their CE.

How to Renew an Expired License

If you do not complete renewal before the expiration date, your license or certification will expire. It is illegal to perform appraisals while your license or certification is expired.

You may renew an expired license or certification within 12 months of its expiration date by submitting a renewal application, paying the renewal fee and a late fee, and attesting to completion of the required CE.

If you fail to renew within the 12-month period and wish to resume practicing, you must reapply as a new applicant. See Section 2.2.3 of the Council’s Rules and Regulations.

How to Reactivate an Inactive License

You are not permitted to perform appraisals in Delaware while your license is in Inactive status. To place your license in Inactive status, submit a written request to the Council. Your license may remain in Inactive status for up to six years.

To reactivate your license to Active status so that you can practice in Delaware, you must:

  • notify the Council in writing
  • pay the processing fee.
  • complete the same CE as active licensees or certificate holders during each two-year renewal period
See Section 2.2.4 of the Rules and Regulations.
