APPRAISER TRAINEE


When to Apply

Apply after you have completed 75 hours of qualifying education (QE) hours. There is no experience or examination requirement.

How to Apply for Trainee License

Submit:

  • Non-refundable processing fee by check or money order made payable to “State of Delaware”
  • Copy of your QE certificates
    • Each course must consist of at least 15 classroom hours and include an examination.
    • At least 15 hours must be the required USPAP course.
In addition, arrange for the Council office to receive the following:
  • Verification of Real Estate Appraiser Supervision form (included with the application) completed and signed by your supervising Certified General Real Property Appraiser
    • The form must be sent directly to the Council office from the supervisor.
    • If you have more than one supervisor, each supervisor must submit a completed and signed form.
  • If you have ever been licensed or certified as an appraiser (including trainee permits) in another state, a letter of good standing sent directly from each state where you currently hold, or have ever held, appraiser certification/licensure

When the application is considered complete, the Council will review it at its next meeting. If approved, the Council office will notify you.

How to Apply for Exemption from Supervisory Inspection

When a trainee has accrued 250 hours of residential appraising or 1,000 hours of non-residential appraising experience (as defined by the Appraisal Qualifications Board in its appraisal qualifications criteria), the trainee and his/her supervisor supervisor may jointly apply to the Council for an exemption to allow the supervisor to sign the appraisal report without inspecting the property (Sections 4.2.3 and 4.2.2.1.1 of the Council’s Rules and Regulations).

Both supervisor and trainee must sign both forms.
