Department of State: Division of Professional Regulation: Board of Nursing

License by Examination

  1. Applications for licensure by examination can be obtained by calling the Board of Nursing office at (302) 744-4500, from this website, or from the director of your school of nursing.
  2. Complete the application for licensure by exam, including signing the Affidavit section in front of a Notary Public. Submit the application along with a money order or cashier's check for the required licensure fee (refer to the instruction sheet in the application packet).
  3. Complete the "bubble" type application for exam and submit it to the testing company. Refer to the instruction sheet provided by the examination company.
  4. Request that the school of nursing submit a completed transcript to the Board of Nursing office as soon as the final degree is posted.
  5. The Board office will make the applicant eligible to test as soon as the application and transcript are received and the testing company has registered the applicant.
  6. The testing company will then send the applicant an Authorization to Test(ATT) form. The applicant can then call the number on the ATT to schedule the appointment to test.
  7. The testing company will send the results to the Board office within ten days after the candidate has taken the exam. The Board office will process the results and mail them to the candidate within two weeks thereafter. Successful candidates will receive a license, along with the exam results. Unsuccessful candidates will receive the application and instructions for re-exam. Re-examination can occur no sooner than 45 calendar days after the previous exam.
