These instructions apply to applicants filing for certification as a Massage Technician, whether or not the applicant is licensed or certified in another state or jurisdiction.
Requirements for All Applicants
ALL APPLICANTS MUST BE AT LEAST 18 YEARS OF AGE.
Please submit the following items to the Board office:
- Completed, signed and notarized Application for
Massage Technician Certification form.
Follow the instructions on the application carefully
so that all needed questions are completed. This includes
verification under oath that the applicant has not engaged
in any acts or offenses that would be grounds for disciplinary
action pursuant to 24 Del. C., § 5309(a)(3).
- Non-refundable
processing fee by check or money order made payable to "State of Delaware."
- Copy of current CPR certification card (front and back)
Additional Requirement for Applicants by Direct Application
An applicant is considered to be filing by "direct application" if he or she:
If the applicant is filing by "direct application," he or she must also submit:
- Official transcript sent directly
from the applicant's massage school or approved program
to the Board office. The transcript must show that the
applicant has completed a minimum 300-hour unified course
of supervised in-class study of massage of no less than
60 hours of anatomy and physiology, 140 hours of theory
and technique, and 100 hours of elective courses in
the field of massage therapy.
Please note: A transcript received from the applicant, rather than directly from the school, is considered unofficial. If the applicant submits an unofficial copy of the transcript, the Board will consider the application when the Board office receives all of the other required documents. However, no certification will be issued until the Board office receives the official transcript directly from the school or program.
Additional Requirement for Applicants Certified or Licensed by Another Jurisdiction
If the applicant is now (or has ever been) certified or licensed to practice massage by another state or other jurisdiction, he or she must submit verification of licensure in good standing from each state or other jurisdiction in which he or she has ever been licensed or certified. This requirement applies regardless of whether the applicant is filing by "direct application" or "reciprocity."
To request verification of certification or licensure, the applicant must contact the licensing board for each jurisdiction in which he/she has ever been licensed and ask each to send a verification letter, which is also called a letter of good standing, to the Delaware Board. Contact information for other state boards is listed on the www.massagetherapy.com/careers/stateboards.php web site. Copies of certificates or licenses are not acceptable. For jurisdictions other than states (such as city, county or Canadian province), request the verification from the agency or organization that issued the certificate or license.
Deadline for Submissions
The Board office must receive items submitted for the
Board to consider at its meeting no later than two full
business days before the meeting. In order to be considered
at a Board meeting, license applications must be complete
two full business days before the meeting. A complete
application is one that includes all required documentation
and correct payment.
Board Review of Applications
If the application for certification is approved and no other documentation is needed, the Board office will issue the certification.
