Examinations Required
All applicants, regardless of years of practice, are required to pass the Delaware Practical Board Examination in dentistry or dental hygiene and the Delaware Jurisprudence Written Examination except for dental hygienists applying by reciprocity.
Dental hygienists applying by reciprocity are required to pass only the Jurisprudence Written Examination.
Practical Board Examination in Dentistry
The Delaware Practical Board Examination in dentistry is offered twice a year at the beginning of January and June. The application deadlines are December 1 and May 1. The exam is limited to 18 candidates each time. See Fee Schedule for examination fee. The Board office must receive the fee before the exam date.
The Jurisprudence Written Examination is given at the same time as the Practical Board Examination.

Practical Board Examination in Dental Hygiene
The Delaware Practical Board Examination in dental hygiene is offered twice a year at the beginning of January and mid-May. The application deadlines are December 1 and April 1. The exam is limited to 36 candidates on each date. See Fee Schedule for cost of exam. The Board office must receive the fee prior to the exam.
The Jurisprudence Written Examination is given during the months of January and May.

Jurisprudence Written Examination
The Delaware Jurisprudence Written Examination is a multiple-choice test based on the Delaware Code and the Board’s Rules and Regulations. The version for Dentists has 30 questions, and the version for Dental Hygienists has 20 questions. |
